World Kidney Day - March 14th - Outside M&S

10am to 3pm

This year we will be at the Kingsgate Shopping Centre in Dunfermline, come and join us!

We will have a stand where we will educate people about Kidney Disease, Fife Kidney Support Group, and Organ Donation.

The hopes for many Kidney patients on Dialysis is to get a transplant.

Remember though, Organ Donation  awareness is not just for Organ Donation Week, it’s forever, something we should be promoting all the time.

It’s not just Kidneys either, there are many organs that can be donated.

Please promote this to ALL your friends and families,  it is also very important that when they register that they have a conversation with their family members to make clear their wishes to donate.

The present “Opt-In” system will probably change to an Opt-Out system, however, the relatives can still have the final say.

In the last five years, NHS figures show that the families of 505 registered donors refused donation.

“NHSBT said this resulted in around 1,200 people missing out on potentially life-saving transplants.

People rarely communicate their wishes to their families on this subject and that leaves them in a quandary, and therefore more likely to say no to donation”.

Organ Donation Scotland - We Need Everybody

Have you heard about Organ Donation Scotland's campaign - We Need Everybody?
Scotland plans to move to an opt-out approach for organ and tissue donation. However, it is important that as many people as possible continue to join the Organ Donation Register.
Joining the NHS Organ Donor Register is easy. It takes less than two minutes and yet it could transform the lives of up to seven people and help restore the sight of two people.

Did you know living people can donate as too?

A healthy person can lead a completely normal life with only one working kidney. In the past 10 years alone, more than 500 people in Scotland have transformed the lives of others and become living kidney donors. Now, almost half of all kidney donations come from living donors, which is fantastic news because living donor transplants lead to better results for patients.
